FEDS DESTROY SEVEN ARMS, AMMO CACHES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, July 18 (AVN) - Federal units destroyed seven arms and ammo caches as well as 14 illegal oil refineries during search operations in Chechnya since Tuesday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

Federal servicemen also seized nine assault rifles, six hunting rifles, five grenade launchers, 12 hand grenades, 16 artillery and eight mortar shells, 41 portable grenade launcher rounds, seven antipersonnel and antitank mines, two radio stations and 3,237 cartridges.

Sappers defused on Tuesday in the Dyshne-Vedeno village two landmines aimed at destroying an APC or similar armoured vehicle.

In general the situation in Chechnya remains quite complicated and rebels continue their attempts on the situation destabilisation. They observe army and police units stationing areas, follow the movements of military equipment and plant mines on the routes of columns and civil transport movements.
