TBILISI, July 23 (AVN) - Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze called on everyone on Monday "not to dramatise the problems" related to the withdrawal of the 50th Russian military base from Gudauta, a city in the breakaway Abkhazian region.
The new term of the base's withdrawal is the main topic for the Russian-Georgian negotiations, and delays with solution of various problems always happen during such a complicated dialogue, Shevardnadze said.
The Shevardnadze position is quite different from the one of Georgian parliament. Considering the situation around the base, lawmakers stated last week that Russia's actions were an attempt to fix the occupation of Abkhazia which is an integral part of Georgia and to support Sukhumi separatists.
The position was again stated in parliament's special statement.
