UNION OF RUSSIA, BEALARUS TO GET MILITARY DOCTRINE SOON

MINSK, July 23 (AVN) - The Russian and Belarussian Defence Ministries completed drafting the military doctrine of the Union of Russia and Belarus, Major General Yuri Portnov, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov's aide on military policy issues, told the Military News Agency on Monday.

According to Portnov, the draft is handed to the union government. It is planned to be discussed by the union's ministers board in August and if adopted it will be handed for approval to the Supreme State Council. There is enough ground for the draft's approval and its coming into power already this year, Portnov added.

The draft was developed on the basis of both countries' national military doctrines and takes into account regulations of the Collective Security Treaty. The document will be the basis for guaranteeing military security for both countries, as well as for army development and training of the Russian-Belarussian military group. The doctrine is of defensive nature and is not aimed against specific countries, Portnov stressed.
