ZAPOROZHYE, Ukraine, July 23 (AVN) - The local Progress machine-building design bureau will exhibit the full-size mock-up of the AI-222-25 aircraft engine at the forthcoming MAKS 2001 international aerospace show, a Progress spokesman said on Monday.
The engine is intended for installation in the YAK-130-1 combat and training plane, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. By the time the show takes place the bureau will complete the transfer of working documents related to the engine to the Motor Sych plant, a local enterprise that will handle AI-222-25 serial production. When the serial production expands the Moscow Salyut machine-building production enterprise and Kazan engine-building association will get involved in the manufacturing prodcess.
AI-222-25 is a modification of the AI-22 engine which is installed in the TU-324 regional plane. According to specialists, the aircraft industry will need this type of engines for at least 30 years. The price of AI-222-25 will make about USD1bn.
The MAKS 2001 show will take place in Moscow from August 14 to 19.
