MOSCOW, July 24 (AVN) - Deep sea divers working in the area of the Kursk submarine disaster completed marking centres of technological openings in the submarine's fourth and fifth compartments, held an additional survey of the bottom and took samples of dirt on Monday, a spokesman for the Navy Staff told the Military News Agency.
Installation of equipment and cutting of the technological opening by abrasive cutting devices continued on the fifth compartment, the spokesman said. The works will continue on Tuesday.
The special purpose expedition operating at the site of the disaster comprises the Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship, Gumanenko sea-class mine-sweeper, GS-87 and Romuald Muklevich hydrographic vessels, two auxiliary vessels and Svir floating hospital.
The Norwegian Mariata reconnaissance vessel is situated not far from the disaster area. It is permanently monitored by various means, including by the Northern Fleet's naval aviation.
The wind at the site is 6m/s, sea swell three points, visibility range up to 10km, and air temperature eight degrees above zero Celsius.
