NEW POLICE CHIEF TAKES OFFICE IN VOLGA FEDERAL DISTRICT

MOSCOW, July 26 (AVN) - Lieutenant General Vladimir Shcherbakov took command of the Interior Ministry main department in the Volga federal district on Thursday, a ministry spokesman told the Military News Agency.

Shcherbakov was born in the Nizhnekamsk district of the Omsk region in 1955. He graduated from the Gorky Higher Police School in 1980 and the Interior Ministry Academy in 1993. Shcherbakov joined the police as inspector in the department for combating socialist property embezzlement in the Soversky district police department in Omsk. Later he became head of the Omsk city department for combating socialist property embezzlement, then deputy head of the same department in the Omsk region and head of the staff department.

From 1995 to 1998 Shcherbakov served as first deputy police chief and head of the criminal police service in the Omsk region. Prior to his current appointment he was interior minister of the Udmurtian autonomous republic. He has been awarded the Order of Personal Courage.
