RUSSIA, USA TO EXCHANGE MILITARY DELEGATIONS IN FUTURE -- DM

MOSCOW, July 26 (AVN) - Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov and Assistant to the US President on National Security Affairs Condoleezza Rice achieved no agreements but reached mutual understanding on various conceptual issues during their talks in Moscow.

Particularly, understanding was reached in the issue of military specialists exchange, Ivanov told reporters after the meeting. For instance, a group of Russian military specialists led by Colonel General Yuri Baluyevsky, chief of the General Staff main operations department and first deputy Chief-of-Staff, will leave for Washington on August 7. The exchange will continue in the future as well.

The Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty has become outdated for it was signed during the Cold War together with several other treaties and currently there is a need to consider more widely all documents relatred to strategic stability, security and peace, Rice said when asked to comment on the broadening of the ABM Treaty. "The sphere of combating international terrorism is quite important too," Ivanov added.

Rice met Russian President Vladimir Putin at 12.00 Moscow time (0800 GMT).
