BORDER GUARDS TO RECEIVE MANGUST HIGH SPEED PATROL BOAT IN THIRD QUARTER OF 2001

MOSCOW, July 26 (AVN) - Federal Border Guard Service (FBGS) military equipment orders department concluded an agreement with the Vympel shipyard on supply of the Mangust high speed patrol boat, a spokesman for the FBGS naval guard department said on Thursday.

The contract is estimated at RUR4m (USD136,691), the spokesman told the Military News Agency.

The Mangust will be handed to border guards in the third quarter of 2001 in accordance with the agreement. It will be stationed in Astrakhan and secure the economic coastal zone.

The vessel is the leading one of the Project 12150, its complete displacement is 27.2 tons, length is 19.5 metres and width is 4.4 metres. The maximum speed is 53 knots while the range of sail at the cruiser speed of 35 to 40 knots with the fuel stock of 3.5 tons makes 430 miles. The Mangust's endurance is two days and its crew comprises six people.

The boat was set afloat on June 5 this year and currently undergoes tests. Before the agreement was concluded the production was financed by the shipyard alone.
