LAND FORCES CHIEF-OF-STAFF VISITING RUSSIAN MILITARY CONTINGENT

SLATINA, July 30 (AVN) - Lieutenant General Alexander Morozov, Land Forces chief-of-staff and first deputy Land Forces commander, arrived with a group of officers and generals from Bosnia to Slatina where the Russian Military Contingent is headquartered, a spokesman for the contingent headquarters said on Monday.

One of the reasons for the delegation's seven-day visit to the Balkans is the detailed studying of activities of peacekeepers of Russian military contingents in Bosnia and Kosovo. The studying is aimed at forthcoming reduction of those contingents and stating the terms of peacekeeping functions handing by airborne troops to the Land Forces units.

Morozov heard the reports of the contingent's commander Major General Vladimir Kazantsev as well as Kazantsev's deputies. They discussed the current military and political situation in Kosovo, peculiarities of battalion task forces tasks implementation and provision of materiel support to the contingent.

The delegation members plan to fly over all battalion task forces of the contingent, visit the permanent control points located in the German and US sectors and meet paratroopers. Morozov is also expected to meet KFOR Commander Lieutenant General Thorstein Skiaker.
