MI-24 HIND HELIS INFLICT AIR STRIKES ON REBEL GROUPS IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, August 2 (AVN) - SU-24 Fencer frontline bombers and SU-25 Frogfoot fighters flew six sorties in Chechnya since Wednesday to support federal units, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

During those flights the planes carried out air reconnaissance of the territory and hammered targets in hard-to-reach districts of the breakaway republic. Army aviation accomplished 19 missions convoying military and civil columns. Moreover, MI-24 Hind helicopters inflicted air strikes on rebel groups in piedmonts and near the Chiri-Yurt, Chishki, Serzhen-Yurt and Nozhai-Yurt villages.

Federal transport planes airlifted 90 servicemen and 14t of cargo from the area of operations to central Russia.
