MODERNISED AIRCRAFT SHOW STARTS IN ASTRAKHAN REGION MONDAY

AKHTUBINSK, Astrakhan Region, August 6 (AVN) - The modernised aircraft show started at the observation point of the Groshevo proving range in the Defence Ministry state flight testing centre.

The foreign Air Force military attaches and reporters demonstrate huge interest not only in the aircraft but in exhibited here communication means, optical surveillance devices and aircraft hitting means. The electronic presentation will take place in special challets which to show new ways of using aircraft equipment.

The aircraft modernisation programme which is envisaged up to 2005 is implemented "under the auspices of ideology which involves togetherness of technical decisions on all aircraft systems," Deputy Air Force Commander Colonel General Vladimir Mikhailov told the Military News Agency. The main ways of modernisation include addition of multifunctioning features to aircraft, provision daily flights in all weather conditions, increasing the hitting precision of surface and air targets, navigation, combat capabilities by enhancing hitting means, modernisation of pilot cabin, decrease of expenses on usage and training.

The stated tasks are being accomplished by modernisation of worn out on-board systems with the new ones with simultaneous development of created and being created systems. Particularly, the on-board equipment unification level for SU-27 and SU-30 Flanker planes is 90 to 95 percent while MI-8 Hip and MI-24 Hind helicopters' level is 68 percent, Mikhailov said.
