600 OFFICERS FOR BALTIC FLEET NOT TO FILL MANNING GAP IN 2001 -- OFFICIAL

KALININGRAD, August 7 (AVN) - The manning of the primary officer posts in the Navy staff and sea aviation team does not exceed 80 percent, Rear Admiral Igor Zverev, head of the Baltic Fleet HR department, told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

According to him, those posts were 100 percent manned in the former Soviet Navy. The deficit of the lieutenant-tankmen, missilemen, signalmen in the Land Forces and coastal troops of the fleet is 40 percent. Besides, young officers continue to leave the military service on various reasons, said Zverev. One hundred of 30-year-old officers have left the service in 2001.

As many as 600 lieutenants who graduated from the Navy and other colleges this year will not help the situation with manning of the primary officer posts in the Baltic Fleet.
