MOSCOW, August 8 (AVN) - Specialists of the Defence Ministry 13th R&D institute prolonged the service life of 80 percent of the North Caucasus military district aircraft during the Chechnya campaign, the institute's deputy chief Dmitry Seredin told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.
The prolonging of service terms and resources is the top priority destination for the institute, Seredin said. The specialists developed over 20 new methods on the aircraft technical conditions inspection. Thanks to it the service terms of 23 types of aircraft, 14 types of aviation engines, seven types of wire-guided missiles were extended. The complete economic efficiency on extension of service terms and resources estimates at RUR6bn (USD204.61m) in past three years.
The institute provides research and methodical support to six types of aircraft and three types of aviation engines. Together with leading Air Force aircraft repairing plants the institute specialists developed and implemented new repairing technologies which permitted to decrease the cost and repairing terms at 30 to 40 percent.
According to Seredin, currently the institute co-operates with over 20 Defence Ministry R&D organisations on wide-scale spectrum of inter-type problems.
