KHANKALA, August 9 (AVN) - Rebels blasted one mine and fired automatic guns and grenade launchers at police and Interior Ministry units since Wednesday injuring nine servicemen, a spokesman for the police department for Chechnya told the Military News Agency on Thursday.
A booby trap blasted in the Simsyr village of the Nozhai-Yurt district when Interior Ministry servicemen carried out an engineering reconnaissance. As a result three servicemen were injured and taken to hospital. The medical aid was provided to one of them at the site. A column with 19 vehicles and four APCs was attacked from automatic guns and grenade launchers near the Samashki forest in the Achkhoi-Martan district. Five on-duty servicemen were wounded and sent to hospital with one professional serviceman.
A stranger in camouflage and a mask shot dead an on-duty policeman, 38, who was Chechen, from a Kalashnikov assault rifle in the Oktyabrskoye village of the Kurchaloi district at about 22.00 Moscow time (1800 GMT). Five sleeves and two 5.45mm bullets were taken from the tragedy site.
The police carried out 10 search and preventive operations in the Grozny, Argun, Achkhoi-Martan, Vedeno, Nozhai-Yurt, Shali and other localities of the breakaway republic on Wednesday, the spokesman said. They checked 8,735 people and 5,218 vehicles and exposed 319 administrative offences, including 136 violations of passport rules. Policemen seized two grenade launchers, an assault rifle, a pistol, a hunting rifle, 23 grenades, eight grenade launcher rounds, two artillery shells, 1,035 various calibre cartridges and 2.8kg of explosives in Grozny, Argun, Vedeno, Grebenskoye, Oktyabrskoye and other localities. Besides, one illegal oil refinery was eliminated.
