ZVEZDA ENTERPRISE PRODUCES OXYGEN SYSTEM FOR COMBAT PLANES

MOSCOW, August 14 (AVN) - The Zvezda JS developed the oxygen system for combat aircraft which will allow to get rid of on-board oxygen balloons, Gai Severin, director general and constructor general of the enterprise, told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

Zvezda is a global leader in development of ejection seats for combat planes and pilot life support systems.

According to Severin, the new system contcentrates oxygen from wind blast and uses air from the compressor. The working sample of the system will be demonstrated at the MAKS 2001 aerospace show that opened in the Moscow region on Tuesday.

The enterprise's bench at MAKS also features new ejection seats for combat and sport planes, rescue means for sport and light engine aircraft which are constantly modernised, Severin said. Besdies, Zvezda exhibits rescue means for passenger planes. The modernisation of TU-154 is the top priority issue for the plane needs to be adjusted to international standards as far as oxygen systems installation is concerned.

Among the enterprise's primary exhibits is the new generation suit for operating in outer space. It is equipped with a self-rescue system which is the power plant needed if a cosmonaut loses communication with the space station. Zvezda produced those devices for the Mir space station for about 15 years, Severin said. Mir's cosmonauts accomplished almost 100 paired exits into space and worked there for some 800 hours.
