CAR CRASHES KILL SOME 11,000 PEOPLE IN RUSSIA IN JANUARY-JUNE 2001

MOSCOW, August 14 (AVN) - As many as 10,651 people were killed and over 69,000 people injured in car crashes in Russia from January to June 2001, Major General Vladimir Timoshin, acting chief of the road police, said on Tuesday.

The total number of car accidents declined by less than one percent to 60,742, Timoshin told the Military News Agency. It makes an average of 19.2 accidents for each 10,000 vehicles. This ratio is much higher in the Komi-Perm autonomous district, Bryansk, region, Dagestan autonomous republic and Chuvashian autonomous republic where it makes 35, 27.7, 27.4 and 26.4 crashes respectively for each 10,000 vehicles.
