VYBORG SHIPYARD TO PRODUCE CS-50 OIL EXTRACTION PLATFORM FOR NORWAY

ST.PETERSBURG, August 14 (AVN) - The Vyborg Shipyard JS will set afloat in September pontoons for the CS-50 drilling platform which are being produced by the Norway's Moss Maritime company, Dmitry Sapov, aide to the shipyard's director general, told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

The keel of the CS-50 platform aimed at exploring and extracting oil on the Arctic shelf was laid in January 2001. In accordance with the contract the lower foundation of the platform will be completed by March 2002. The platform's weight is 14,500t, displacement 49,800t, length 118.5 metres and width 70.5 metres. The total cost of works is USD35m, which makes one of the largest foreign orders received by Russian shipbuilders in the past 10 years.

According to Sapov, the production of the platform goes in accordance with schedule and the platform will be supplied to the customer in time. The parties might agree on mounting additional equipment on the platform in the near future.

The Vyborg shipyard is one of the most famous Russian producers of platforms for exploration and extraction of oil and gas on the sea shelf. The enterprise has produced over 20 half-submersible and climbing drilling systems as well as upper components of stationary platforms since 1978.
