KARELIAN POLICE DETAIN TWO SOLDIERS SUSPECTED OF MURDERING FOREIGNER

SORTAVALA, Karelia, August 15 (AVN) - Police officers in the town of Sortavala 150km west of the Karelian capital Petrozavodsk detained two servicemen suspected of murdering a Finnish citizen, a spokesman for the Sortavala police department told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.

Senior Sergeant Andrei Aksentyev and Lance Bombardier Dmitry Klimov, both professional servicemen, confessed that they entered the border zone and stopped an Audi car at the 12th kilometre of the Vyartsilya-Sortavala motorway at 14.30 Moscow time (1030 GMT) on August 9. In order to get hold of the car, they murdered the driver, Puhkka Aati.

The detainees were taken in custody and a criminal case was launched against them.

Aksentyev is an ethnic Finn and Klimov is a Russian by nationality. Both servicemen are 20, single and have been in the Armed Forces since June 1999.
