SEVEROMORSK, Murmansk Region, August 17 (AVN) - British Royal Navy frigate Campbeltown will participate in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first Dervish joint convoy's arrival to the USSR, a spokesman for the Northern Fleet headquarters told the Military News Agency on Friday.
The celebration's main events named Dervish 2001 will happen in Murmansk, Severomorsk and Arkhangelsk. A group of over 70 British convoy members and their families will arrive in Murmansk on August 26. Two days later they will head for Arkhangelsk while the frigate's visit to Mursk is to start August 27.
After the arrival the frigate together with the Zadorny large anti-submarine ship and Alexander Otrakovsky large landing ship of Russia will sail to Arkhangelsk. On August 30 they will drop anchors in the mouth of the Severnaya Dvina River and will exchange greeting salutes at 13.00 Moscow time (0900 GMT). That will mark the start of the Dervish 2001 celebration.
The British frigate was set afloat in 1987 and commissioned by the Navy in 1989. It is based in the town of Davenport and has visited St. Petersburg and Baltiysk this year.
