MOSCOW, August 20 (AVN) - A check of on-duty forces of the Russian Baltic Fleet's air defence and the Belarussian Air Defence troops with combat firing is planned for Wednesday, the Military News Agency learned.
The check will take place on the testing ground of the Russian Baltic Fleet at Cape Taran. It will be held in the framework of the Combat Commonwealth 2001 joint exercise and will be supervised by Russian Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov.
Two Belarussian air defence battalions and two S-300 air defence divisions of the Baltic Fleet will be subject to the check, Lieutenant General Yuri Bondarev, deputy Air Force commander in charge of the CIS Unified Air Defence System, told the Agency. Missile targets will imitate the flight of cruise missiles.
Belarussian Defence Minister Leonid Maltsev and Air Defence Commander Valery Kostenko are to take part in the check.
