N. CAUCASUS MILITARY DISTRICT CHECKING YOUNG LIEUTENANTS

ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 20 (AVN) - This year's graduates of higher military educational establishments started control classes in the basic centres of the 42nd, 19th and 20th motorised rifle regiments of the North Caucasus military district on Monday, a spokesman for the district headquarters told the Military News Agency.

Experienced officers supervised by unit commanders will check some 850 lieutenants who are to demonstrate their skills in firing regular arms and handling military equipment. Their knowledge of governing documents and warfare conduction basics should also be displayed, the spokesman said.

Young officers serving in the district's peacekeeping units in the breakaway Georgian regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia will be checked on a separate programme. In addition to the above-mentioned skills and knowledge, officers will check their competence in traditions and colloquial expressions of the peoples residing in the district.

The control classes will end on Saturday.
