ROSTOV-ON-DON, August 20 (AVN) - A commission of Russian President Vladimir Putin's envoy to the Southern federal district headed by deputy envoy Mikhail Fesisov summed up results of its work, a spokesman for the envoy's administration told the Military News Agency on Monday.
The commission found 124 and detected 123 crimes from January to July 2001 which is practically two times higher than in the same period in 2000. 60.8 percent of the detected crimes are of criminal nature. The document elaborated by the commission states that over 21,000 individuals and 3,775 vessels have been detained for poaching in the Krasnodar territory and Rostov region this year. As many as 210,296 fishing tools and 207t of fish and seafood were confiscated from poachers. 1,140 criminal cases were launched on the results of criminal investigations and 271 people were sentenced to prison. The total sum of damages is estimated at RUR12.45m (USD413,400), and RUR3.61m (USD123,190) have been repaid by criminals.
