GROZNY, August 21 (AVN) - A group of Chechen rebels attacked a federal patrol that attempt to detain them in the Staraya Sunzha village on the outskirts of Grozny, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.
The reprisal fire killed one rebel, and the others dispersed. A Kalashnikov assault rifle and two equipped magazines were found and seized on the site.
Interior Ministry sappers found two caches with arms and ammo in the Leninsky district of Grozny while carrying out search operations. Another cache with a large batch of camouflage uniform and 17 portable antitank grenade launchers was found in the south-western Chechen Urus-Martan district. Sappers also defused a powerful pressure landmine fitted with two 122mm artillery shells at an entrance to Urus-Martan.
