REBELS PLANNING TO CAPTURE CHECHNYA'S NOZHAI-YURT IN LATE AUGUST

KHANKALA, August 21 (AVN) - Rebels are planning to capture the Nozhai-Yurt village in eastern Chechnya in late August, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

The situation in the Shatoi, Vedeno and Nozhai-Yurt districts remains quite complicated, the spokesman said. Scouts constantly register relocation of rebels in the area. The rebels avoid being hit by artillery and aviation and escape in advance from the districts where federal forces start carrying out search operations.

A rebel group comprising 14 people stayed in the Ersenoi village in the Vedeno district from August 18 to 20. At the same time a group of up to 25 mounted guerrillas was found near the Benoi-Vedeno village. Another small rebel group is heading there on mountain paths from Dagestan.

Several rebel groups riding on vehicles with Ichkerian flags have been spotted near the Yalkhoi-Mokhk, Turtri-Hutor and Gansolchu villages in the past several days. According to scouting information, a meeting of field commanders involving Abalayev, Eldarov and Aidamirov took place near the Zandak village in the Nozhai-Yurt district on August 17 to 19. During the meeting rebels discussed the invasion of Nozhai-Yurt planned for late August. Some sources claim that the invasion participants have received the needed funds from notorious warlord Khattab.
