MOSCOW MILITARY DISTRICT SETS UP PEACEKEEPERS TRAINING CENTRE

MOSCOW, August 21 (AVN) - The Moscow military district commander, Colonel General Ivan Yefremov, has set up a peacekeepers training centre in the city of Tver some 150km north-west of Moscow, a spokesman for the district headquarters said on Tuesday.

The centre will train servicemen for participation in the peacekeeping operation in Kosovo, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. It is established in accordance with a directive of Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin authorising the transfer of peacekeeping functions within KFOR from the Airborne troops to the Moscow district.

The new centre is located in the territory of the 70th arms and military equipment storage base, former 166th separate motorised rifle brigade. In accordance with Yefremov's order, its classes will start on September 24.
