ABOUT 1,300 VIOLATORS DETAINED ON AZERI-RUSSIAN BORDER THIS YEAR

MOSCOW, August 22 (AVN) - More than 1,300 violators have been detained on the Russia-Azerbaijan border strap this year, a spokesman for the Federal Border Guard Service (FBGS) told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.

This is one third of the total number of all violators detained by border guards in 2001. Most of the violations are committed by residents of Dagestan and Georgia in order to visit their relatives or relocate cattle. Besides, control post areas are considered to be the most convenient channels for rebel migration. Several such violations have been registered this year.

Azerbaijani border guards understand the concern of Russian colleagues and support them. In particular, during the meeting of border representatives in June Azerbaijan made a decision to construct engineering barrages on several common border straps.
