SIX REBELS AMBUSHED BY INTERIOR MINISTRY TROOPS IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, August 23 (AVN) - A rebel gang heading for an ammo cache was ambushed by a special group of the Interior Ministry troops near the Chechen village of Gilyany on Thursday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

Two guerrillas were killed in the brief combat. Another four, including one with multiple wounds, were captured.

Federals holding a pin-point mop-up operation in the southern Chechen Inkot village found a well-masked cache in the backyard of a residential house. The cache contained 22 Kalashnikov assault rifles and over 2,000 cartridges.
