MOSCOW, August 23 (AVN) - The 5th Russian International Autosalon opened in Moscow's Expocentre on Thursday.
The GAZ company has the largest section at the show, exhibiting both famous and promising vehicles. Being a traditional supplier of special equipment to law-enforcement agencies, GAZ demonstrates its Ataman, Yermak and Kombat four-wheel-drive off-roaders as well as the GAZ-3308 Sadko vehicle which is a new off-roader model.
Sadko is to replace GAZ-66 hich is used by army and police forces. The vehicle fitted with five-stage synchronised transmission and transfer gear-box demonstrated good dynamic qualities and high cross-country capacity during tests at the Defence Ministry's 21st R&D testing institute and in combat conditions. Thanks to advanced-friction inter-wheel gear the vehicle crosses obstacles easily.
Sadko is developed on the modular design and production principle, which helped simplify technical servicing of the vehicle and provision of component parts for it. The vehicle's army variant is marked by a tyre pressure regulation system and pneumatic output for connection with the trailer's brake system. A winch can also be mounted on the vehicle at the customer's request. The GAZ-3902 Vepr off-roader was developed on the Sadko basis for special services.
The Volga family of serial and promising cars is represented at the show by GAZ-3110, GAZ-3102 and GAZ-3111 models in standard and special variants. According the company's officials, mini-trucks and mini-vans of the Gazel and Sobol series represent success of the plant's technical and marketing policy. The GAZ-2217 Sobol-Barguzin vehicle with a new dashboard, anti-blocking system, conditioner and power steering system will not remain unnoticed either.
The show is open for mass media, specialists and businessmen on Thursday while the official opening ceremony will take place on Friday.
