KAMAZ SUPPLIES OVER 120 VEHICLES TO RUSSIAN DEFENCE MINISTRY IN 2001

MOSCOW, August 24 (AVN) - The KamAZ plant has supplied over 120 vehicles, including 80 special-purpose ones, to the Russian Defence Ministry this year, KamAZ President and Director General Ivan Kostin said on Friday.

The plant offers to the ministry various modifications of Mustang-family vehicles, including those made on the 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 wheel formula, Kostin told the Military News Agency.

Besides, KamAZ can adjust its new vehicles, including those exhibited at the 5th Russian International Autosalon, to the Defence Ministry's requirements, Kostin said. For instance, military experts are interested in Russia's first four-axial vehicle with the 8x4 wheel formula, KamAZ-6540. Its cargo capacity was increased from 15t to 18.5t. Designers of this vehicle managed to solve the problem of increasing manoeuvrability and basis at the same time.

According to Kostin, the plant's relations with the Defence Ministry are "positive". KamAZ is waiting for the ministry to start purchasing larger batches of automobiles, he said.

The plant's production volume grew 11 percent from January to July 2001, and KamAZ is hoping to keep the pace until the end of the year. Net profit of the enterprise is expected to exceed RUR20m (USD680,710) by the end of the year, Kostin stressed.
