KHANKALA, August 27 (AVN) - Rebels made one blast and attacked police and Interior Ministry units six times on Sunday, injuring four policemen, a spokesman for the ministry's department for Chechnya told the Military News Agency.
A powerful explosive device blasted under an UAZ jeep in the Oktyabrsky district of Grozny at 14.25 Moscow time (1025 GMT). The jeep carrying composite police unit members was heading for a hospital. Search for the terrorists is underway.
According to the spokesman, the police carried out 11 search and preventive operations in the breakaway republic on Sunday. They checked 24,553 people, 15,816 vehicles, and registered 532 administrative offences, including 131 violations of passport rules.
Policemen seized three assault rifles, two pistols, six hunting rifles, two flare pistols, 35 artillery and mortar shells, 30 hand grenades, 50 grenade launcher rounds, 2,040 small-arms cartridges and 1.6kg of explosives. Besides, nine illegal oil refineries and four makeshift explosive devices were eliminated.
A 36-year-old local resident was detained in the town of Argun during search operations. Policemen confiscated from him a Kalashnikov assault rifle, three antitank grenade launcher rounds, 0.6kg of TNT, 50m of fuse and over 600 cartridges.
