FED SAPPERS DEFUSE 16 LANDMINES IN CHECHNYA

KHANKALA, August 27 (AVN) - Federal sappers defused 16 landmines near the Sayasan, Dzhugurty and Chiri-Yurt villages of Chechnya on Sunday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said.

Servicemen confiscated 33 pieces of small arms, including 24 in the Belgatoi and Shauni villages, seven artillery and seven mortar shells, 20 portable antitank grenade launcher rounds, 10 grenades, almost 10,000 small-arms cartridges and 3kg of explosives.

The amount of arms imported to Chechnya from Azerbaijan and Georgia remains quite large, the spokesman said.
