DIVERS START CUTTING LAST OPENING IN KURSK SUB HULL

MOSCOW, August 28 (AVN) - Deep sea divers started cutting the last technological opening in the rigid hull of the sunk Kursk submarine on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Navy Staff told the Military News Agency.

The divers are working on the hull of the third compartment, the spokesman said.

The Carrier barge is expected to arrive in the operation area on Wednesday. It carries equipment for cutting off the submarine's first compartment, as well as devices for surveying the interhull space through technological openings.

The radiation background in the area is less than three microroentgen per hour, which is within regular limits. The wind strength is about 5m/s and sea swell is two points. It is foggy at the site of the operation.
