GOVT INTRODUCES NEW ORDER OF PAYING COMPENSATIONS TO CHERNOBYL VICTIMS

MOSCOW, August 29 (AVN) - The Russian government has approved the new order of paying monthly compensations to people whose health was affected by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster, a spokesman for the government information department said on Wednesday.

The order concerns the people who lived in the territories adjacent to the plant or took part in elimination of the disaster's consequences, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. It was elaborated in accordance with the law "Concerning Social Security of Citizens Affected by Radiation as a Result of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Catastrophe."

Compensations will be paid to the disabled and unemployable members of dead invalids' families, the spokesman said. The disabled of the first category will get RUR5,000 (USD170) a month, the disabled of second category RUR2,500 (USD85) and those of the third category RUR1,000 (USD34). Payments will be made by social protection bodies or other state agencies paying pensions to citizens.

In order to get the compensation the disabled should submit a corresponding application, a copy of the disabled's ID, a copy of a note from the state medical examination body confirming disablement, a copy of a resolution of an interdepartmental expert council or military medical commission on the connection between the disablement and radiation effect or involvement in elimination of the Chernobyl disaster's consequences.

Unemployable relatives of a dead invalid should submit a corresponding application, a copy of an identification document, a copy of a document confirming the invalid's death, a certificate on the composition of the family and documents confirming existence of unemployable dependants.

Compensations may be paid individually to each unemployable dependant.
