BELOOZERSKY, Moscow Region, August 30 (AVN) - The multi-purpose assault round with the penetrating grenade will pass service tests by late 2001, Andrei Strelnikov, director general of the state aircraft systems research and technical range, said on Thursday.
The grenade launcher used in the tests is a modification of common RPG-7V, Strelnikov told the Military News Agency. It is fitted with a regular starter and components of the PG-7VL round such as bursting charge and rocket engine.
The only new component is the warhead with the shell-forming charge and penetrating high-explosive grenade. The latter's application is based on the principle of high-speed casting of an attack element made out of metal casing of a special shape.
The round with the penetrating grenade is capable of piercing a concrete wall up to 250mm thick and a brick wall up to 400mm thick. The warhead calibre is 103mm and the danger range is 260m.
