Khankala, September 4 (AVN) - Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin has ordered the Airborne Troops to hold rotation of their operative ground in Chechnya from September 15 to October 15, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Tuesday.
It will be a one-stage event held in accordance with a schedule approved by the General Staff, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. Airborne units will be taken to and from Chechnya by trains.
The Airborne have one-battalion-size and two regiment-size task forces, a composite scouting detachment and an artillery regiment in Chechnya. Their total strength makes 2,400 people.
A total of 10 airborne regiments numbering about 10,000 people have passed through the breakaway region since August 1999. The title of the Hero of Russia was conferred on 49 paratroopers, orders and medals were given to some 7,000 servicemen. The Airborne have lost 285 people KIA and 566 WIA since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation.
