Khankala, September 5 (AVN) - Federal forces have engaged 50-strong rebel groups twice in the south-eastern Chechen Vedeno district during the past two days, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters in the North Caucasus told the Military News Agency on Wednesday.
The situation is still tense in the district, said the spokesman. Nine rebels were killed and 12 were wounded and detained as a result of the engagements. Other extremists managed to fling off their pursuers and withdrew towards the Makhketa village.
Scouting formations found two small extremist groups numbering a total of 11 people near the Tsa-Vedeno and Elistanzhi villages on Tuesday. Both formations were destroyed by artillery strikes.
