FEDS LOOKING FOR EXTREMIST GANG TERRORISING LOCALS IN GROZNY

Khankala, September 6 (AVN) - Federal forces have been searching for a rebel group led by an Umar and featuring ethnic Karachais, Ingushs, Russians and Dagestanis in the Chechen capital Grozny since Tuesday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.

The group members break into houses of Grozny residents who work in local governing bodies and law-enforcement agencies. The group uses violence and threats of murder to make Chechens abandon co-operation with the federals.

A member of the group named Aslanbek Khudiyev, resident of the Ingush Malgobek district, was detained by secret service agents on Wednesday. He testified that the group gathered at the Grozny central market. Among the group's latest victims are six officials of district administrations and of a railway terminal, as well as two construction workers.
