Moscow, September 6 (AVN) - The deputy director and chief-of-staff of the Federal Border Guard Service (FBGS), Colonel General Nikolai Reznichenko, will leave for Dushanbe on Thursday afternoon to inspect the Russian border guard group in Tajikistan, an FBGS spokesman told the Military News Agency.
Reznichenko will hear reports of the group command, visit several formations and study organisation of border protection in autumn and winder, the spokesman said.
Russian border guards on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan frontier came under fire and engaged violators about 20 times in August 2001 alone. They have seized over 550kg of heroin from violators in the past 10 days.
Reznichenko is also expected to attend celebrations of the 10th anniversary of Tajikistan's independence that will take place in Dushanbe on the weekend, the spokesman said.
Reznichenko was commander of the group from March 1998 to February 1999, before being promoted to his current post.
