RUSSIA'S AVIAKOR TO LAUNCH PRODUCTION OF NEW LIGHT PLANE IN 2 YEARS

Samara, Volga Region, September 6 (AVN) - The local Aviakor aircraft plant may launch production of the new IL-100 light plane in two years, Samara Region Governor Konstantin Titov said on Thursday.

Aviakor is altering its production strategy and adding minor aviation planes to the list of its products. According to Titov, the enterprise may enter a new development level by mastering production of a light general-purpose plane intended for inter-city flights within a single region. IL-100, which is being developed by the Ilyushin design bureau, fully matches the description.

Samara will provide comprehensive support to the local Kuznetsov research and technical enterprise which is developing the NK-123 aircraft engine, Titov announced. NK-123 will be installed in IL-100 and several helicopters. Its take-off capacity is 650hp, specific fuel consumption in the cruising flight mode 0.233kg/l per hour, and overhaul period 5,000 hours. The engine will enter serial production after 2003.

A spokesman for Titov's administration said that Titov met Chief-of-Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin here on Wednesday. At the request from the military the two officials discussed establishment of the 2nd general army headquarters in Samara, employment of former officers of the disbanded Volga military district headquarters and provision of housing to them. Titov brought up the issue of serial production of the Russian-Ukrainian AN-70 plane at Aviakor.

Earlier this week it was reported that Titov had sent a letter to Kvashnin asking him to lobby the decision on AN-70 serial production in Samara.
