Khankala, September 7 (AVN) - Unidentified persons fired automatic rifles and under-barrel grenade launchers from a Niva jeep at Interior Ministry servicemen who carried out special operations near the Mesker-Yurt village of Chechnya's Shali district, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Friday.
No casualties were registered among federals, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. They returned fire and killed four rebels, who are now being identified. Servicemen took from the site two RPG-18 grenade launchers, four Kalashnikov assault rifles, two pistols, three RPG-5 grenades and 641 cartridges.
Composite unit policemen found and defused a makeshift explosive device in the Staropromyslovy district of Grozny during search operations. The device consisted of three various calibre artillery shells, a 82mm mortar shell, 4kg of TNT and 50kg of plastic explosives.
When accomplishing search operations in the Dyshne-Vedeno village of the Vedeno district, policemen found and confiscated three grenade launchers, three antipersonnel mines, 23 mortar shells, 24 hand grenades and 464 5.45mm cartridges in abandoned buildings.
Policemen also found and eliminated a cache near the Syuzhi village of the Shatoi district. The cache contained two RPG-26 grenade launchers, two aviation bombs, 26 grenade launcher rounds, an antipersonnel mine, a makeshift explosive device, 18 electric detonators, a 200g TNT charge and 108 cartridges.
Rebels staged one blast and fired automatic guns and grenade launchers at installations guarded by Interior Ministry servicemen 14 times on Thursday, the spokesman went on. Chechen policemen carried out 19 search and preventive operations, checking 25,113 people and 13,067 vehicles. They registered 627 administrative offences including 131 passport rules violations.
The police confiscated a total of six grenade launchers, two assault rifles, two hunting rifles, 51 artillery and mortar shells, 81 grenades and grenade launcher rounds, 2,808 small-arms cartridges and 4.65kg of explosives. Besides, four illegal oil refineries and 11 home-made explosive devices were eliminated.
