Moscow, September 7 (AVN) - Russian border guards prevented a violator group from crolssing the Afghanistan-Tajikistan frontier in the responsibility zone of the Moscow detachment on Thursday evening, a spokesman for the Federal Border Guard Service told the Military News Agency.
When the border guards tried to detain the violators, they returned to the Afghan bank of the Panj River making use of the dark. During preliminary examination the border guard patrol found 2kg of heroin on the Tajik bank.
The activity of drug smugglers on the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border is not weakening in September, the spokesman said. Border guards prevented more than 10 groups of drug couriers from crossing the Panj River in August. Patrols engaged violators and came under fire about 20 times, and one serviceman of the Panj border guard detachment was wounded as a result. On the whole, four servicemen of the Russian Border Guard Service have been wounded in Tajikistan this year.
