Severomorsk, Murmansk Region, September 7 (AVN) - Deep sea divers working on the sunk Kursk submarine turned on the saw for cutting off the submarine's first compartment at about 8.00 Moscow time (0400 GMT) on Friday, an official of the Northern Fleet headquarters said.
The broken cable saw was replaced with a new one and cutting equipment was tuned in overnight, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. The divers have yet to cut the submarine's light and rigid hull for the distance of 2.7m from the keel mark. Taking into account that the cutting line has a declination of 20 degrees towards the stern the saw is to go about three metres to complete the operation.
