Russia to hold tender for developing fifth generation combat aircraft

MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax-AVN) - In October-November Russia will hold a tender for the development and manufacture of combat aircraft of the fifth generation, Chief of the Russian Aerospace Agency Yuri Koptev told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The tender will be held at orders from the Defense Ministry," he said.

Koptev said priority will be given to the Sukhoi company that has significant receipts from foreign economic operations. Due to the limited capability of the government to finance the development of fifth generation aircraft, receipts from aircraft exports will have to be used.

Koptev said that even though Sukhoi has the largest portfolio of export orders, "this does not mean that MiG or Yakovlev corporations cannot be involved in the development of the fifth generation aircraft to a certain extent."
