Russian border guards fine fishing schooner for rules violations

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian border guards completed on Wednesday investigation into activities of the Forever fishing schooner detained in the Russian Far East, a spokesman for the Federal Border Guard Service told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The schooner was detained by the Korsakov guard ship on Monday for staying in a restricted area, lacking a certificate on technical control means and a fishing license. The vessel is fined for RUR100,000 (USD3,394).

The Lider schooner, which was also detained by the Korsakov guard ship, is still staying in the Korsakov port of the Sakhalin Island. Its crew was accused of violating crabbing rules. Border guards found 4t of crabs on-board while the vessel did not have a corresponding permission.

Border guards fined Russian and foreign ships for various violations for over USD878,771 from January to August this year. The sum grew 1.3 times in comparison with the same period of 2000.
