Ten terrorist acts carried out in Moscow in three years

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Ten terrorist acts were carried out in Moscow in the period between 1998 and 2000, an official with the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department, Vasily Repnikov, said at a briefing on Wednesday.

Three of the ten cases - an explosion outside the reception office of the Federal Security Service, and two attacks on the U.S. Embassy, have been solved. The year 1999, when eight terrorist acts were carried out, marked the peak of terrorist activity in Moscow, Repnikov said.

A total of 251 people were killed and 313 were injured as a result of these terrorist acts. Eight people have been killed and 23 others have been injured this year, he said.

In the first eight months of 2001, 16 crimes with the use of explosives were committed in Moscow. The organisers of eleven explosions have been tracked down. The investigations of ten cases have been completed, and eight cases have been passed to courts.
