VLADIKAVKAZ. Oct 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The 42nd motorised rifle division's repair and reconstruction battalion has rebuilt some 60 engines for BTR-80 APCs this year, a spokesman for the 58th general army's armament service told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
The repairs became possible thanks to diesel engine repairing systems established on the basis of the battalion. The system features all needed equipment for repairing and tuning engines before mounting them on armoured vehicles.
The system was produced by the Defence Ministry's Armavir tank-repairing plant. According to specialists, the system, which is serviced by 24 experts, can replace an entire enterprise dealing with capital repairs of diesel engines for APCs, KamAZ and Ural trucks.
At present the system is the only one in the North Caucasus military district. Its peculiarity is that the plant usually needs three days to repair an engine while the system is capable to make it in 1.5 to two days. Such repairs save a lot of money that is regularly spent on engines' transportation to Defence Ministry repairing enterprises.
