MURMANSK. Oct 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The effort to raise the nuclear submarine Kursk will begin at 20.00 Moscow time (1600 GMT) on Monday and continue around the clock, Deputy Prime Minister Ilya Klebanov told the press.
He arrived aboard the rocket cruiser Pyotr Veliki and said he would remain aboard until the submarine lifting ends.
The first attempts to start the lifting were made earlier on Monday, but were stopped due to continuing stormy weather and strong waves.
Safety regulations do not permit the diving ship Mayo to remain near the lifting barge Giant-4 if sea roughness is 3 points or more.
Klebanov also told journalists that almost the entire government commission responsible for the Kursk salvage has arrived in Severomorsk. Part of the commission will be aboard the Pyotr Veliky, and another group will be aboard the Mayo, including head of the Rubin design office Igor Spassky and Deputy Navy Commander Rear Admiral Mikhail Barksov.
Navy Commander Vladimir Kuroyedov will remain on the Pyotr Veliki together with Klebanov.
