Policemen detain suspected rebel in Chechnya's Chechen-Aul

GROZNY. Oct 3 (Interfax-AVN) - A 17-year old resident of the Chechen-Aul village in the Grozny rural district has been detained by federals on suspicion of conducting intelligence in the interests of rebels, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya said on Wednesday.

Policemen confiscated from the detainee seven 152mm artillery shells, five grenade launchers, 11 grenade launcher rounds, a night vision device, a video camera and two Kenwood radio stations, the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency. A criminal case was launched against the man.

Federal policemen carried out seven search and preventive operations in Grozny, Achkhoi-Martan, Vedeno, Kurchaloi and other localities of the breakaway republic on Tuesday. They checked some 6,000 people and almost 4,000 vehicles, confiscating four Kalashnikov assault rifles, 16 grenade launchers, seven pistols, 168 hand grenades and grenade launcher rounds, 35 artillery and mortar shells, almost 25kg of explosives and over 1,000 cartridges. Sappers found and defused five explosive devices.

According to the spokesman, no casualties were registered among policemen though a Defence Ministry serviceman was killed.
