Putin meets with Defense Minister Ivanov

MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has had a working meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov in the Kremlin, presidential press secretary Alexei Gromov has said.

Ivanov briefed Putin on the course of the army development, with particular significance attached to the financing of Armed Forces reforms, Gromov said.

Ivanov also informed Putin about Russia's interaction with CIS countries, the U.S. and other states belonging to the anti-terrorist coalition.

The expansion of ties between Russia and NATO was also on the agenda of the meeting.

Ivanov also reported to Putin on the work of a coordinating group of Russian agencies put together at the president's order. The group has been tasked with implementing measures set out in the president's statement on the situation in Afghanistan and Russia's activity in this connection.

The coordinating group includes representatives from the Defense, Foreign, Emergency Situations, and Interior Ministries, the Federal Security and Foreign Intelligence Services, and the Federal Government Communication and Information Agency, Gromov noted.

In addition, the defense minister reported to the president on the supplying of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which the president had ordered.
