KHANKALA. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Rebels attacked federal positions and installations using automatic guns and grenade launchers seven times on Sunday, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry department for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency.
No casualties were registered among federals who fired back in each case.
Policemen carried out 16 search and preventive operations in Chechnya on Sunday, the spokesman said. They checked 20,069 people and 12,399 vehicles and registered 275 administrative offences, including 121 passport rules violations.
The police seized three grenade launchers, two assault rifles, two pistols, seven hunting rifles, 10 artillery and seven mortar shells, 33 grenades and 20 grenade launcher rounds, 4,434 pieces of ammunition for small arms and 11.1kg of explosives. Besides, 72 illegal oil refineries and four makeshift explosive devices were destroyed.
Policemen and servicemen of the Achkhoi-Martan military commandant's office found a rebel cache in a nearby forest. It contained two grenade launchers, two grenade launcher rounds, 12 hand grenades, 1,500 cartridges and 600kg of TNT. Two more caches, exposed in ruined buildings in the Shatoi village, contained a grenade launcher, three grenade launcher rounds, an aviation bomb, some 2,000 cartridges and over 10kg of hexogen.
